Apple Computer Loses Trademark Appeal in China

Apple Computer has lost an appeal at a Chinese Court against the decision of a trademark panel that rejected its application to have its "apple" logo extended to cover clothing and other items in China.
The verdict delivered by the Beijing No.1 Intermediate People's Court means that Apple Computer cannot claim that its "apple" logo is protected under Chinese law for those goods.

The trademark appraisal committee of China's State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC) had previously rejected Apple Computer's application to have its "apple" logo extended to cover clothing, hats and shoes.

Guangdong Apples Industrial Co, a Chinese maker of leather goods, had registered a trademark with a logo of an entire apple instead of a logo of an apple with a bite taken out of it -the Apple Computer's logo.
