Pacific International Arbitration Centre Opens In Vietnam

The Pacific International Arbitration Centre (PIAC) which opened on Wednesday, 25th April 2007, in Ho Chi Minh City, aims to provide an un-biased venue to settle trade disputes in Vietnam.

As an independent non-profit organisation, PIAC will offer alternative dispute resolution services, including mediation and arbitration.

Nguyen Dang Trung, president of the HCM City Bar and the new centre' s president, said that unlike Vietnam's five commercial arbitration centres already in operation, PIAC will meet regional and global integration needs. All commercial disputes, as defined in the 2003 Ordinance on Commercial Arbitration, can be resolved by PIAC arbitration.

PIAC is maintaining relationships with international arbitration centres in Singapore, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. These foreign centres will help PIAC train staff, organise conferences, host seminars and manage the exchange of expertise.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Chief Justice of HCM City People's Court, Pham Xuan Tho.
