Old Court Jester: Computer Virus Alert

New worm virus on the Net

Navidad, 3rd Isle on the Right - W32.Shoddycode is a mass mailing worm program capable of offending its recipients upon viewing of the email.

The worm replies by using your address book and siphoning out only the more important people in your company list and subsequently writing rather rude messages to them. This worm is able to distribute itself via any MAPI-compliant email client, including Microsoft Outlook.

However, emails that are infected with this worm are usually received by higher-level executives who can mean quite a lot to your business. The worm utilizes the existing email subject line and body and attaches itself as shoddycoding.exe.vbs, which will embed itself in your email client and begin generating new messages every 30 minutes. Due to the bugs in the code, after being executed, the worm causes the recipient to react negatively to its last originating sender, thus resulting in a vicious cycle of complaint emails and possible cutting of all business ties with the company or companies in question.

See below to repair W32.Shoddycode damage.

All right, just relax. It's only a virus. Do as I say now;

Breathe in, breathe out. Now, just relax, and breathe in, deeply now, and breathe out. That's right.

Still hot in there? Okay, just count to ten and you'll feel better, all right? Now follow me;

1, 2, 3, 4, feeling better? 5, 6, 7, 8, you see? Just finish counting. 9, 10, there. Still not happy? Okay, let's count backwards. 10, 9, 8, 7, remember to breathe, that's right. 6, 5, 4, 3, you're almost done, I can see you're face turning less red, that's good. 2, 1.

There. All better now. It's all right. Now just delete off the email and forget anything was said, okay? Now go drink a nice glass of cold water and everything will go back to normal...
