Michael Hwang S.C. Appointed New Specialist Judge to Subordinate Courts
President S.R. Nathan has appointed Michael Hwang S.C. as new Specialist Judge to the Subordinate Courts' Bench. Justice Hwang will preside over ancillary matters for a divorce case in the Family Court. Justice Hwang joins Justices Tan Chee Meng and Tan Cheng Han, who have been appointed as Specialist Judges to hear the Fusionpolis and Informatics cases.
Justice Hwang's appointment is effective from September 1 and he will take his Oath of Office and Allegiance before Senior District Judge Richard Magnus. He is currently an Adjunct Professor at NUS. Last year, he was appointed Deputy Chief Justice of the Dubai International Financial Centre.
The case concerns complex issues of maintenance, access, custody, and care & control of children. There is also cross-border dimension to the case with matrimonial assets in Singapore and overseas. For reasons of confidentiality, the names of the parties to the case cannot be released.
