Public Consultation on Amendments to the Publicity Rules for Healthcare Institutions

From 19 November to 31 December 2003, the Ministry will be conducting a public consultation to obtain feedback on the amendments to The Advertising Guidelines, issued under the Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics (PHMC) Act.
The Advertising Guidelines, issued under the Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics (PHMC) Act, were first implemented in 1997. The Guidelines were intended to safeguard the public against indiscriminate promotion and advertising of services by the healthcare institutions.

With the rapid advances in information technology and liberalisation of advertising in some professions (e.g. law) and medical professions in other countries, it is timely that the Advertising Guidelines be reviewed to ensure that they remain relevant.
